Your Guide to Renting a Garbage Bin in the Niagara Region

Step 1: Figure Out What You’re Throwing Away

Before you call, take a quick mental inventory of your project. What are you getting rid of? How much of it is there? Are there any materials that might not be allowed in a standard bin?

Items that cannot go in a bin include tires, propane tanks, paint cans, asbestos, batteries, fridges, air conditioners, and certain other appliances. If you’re unsure about a specific item, just ask! We’re happy to help figure it out.

Step 2: Choose Your Bin Size

Ken’s Salvage offers four sizes: 15, 20, 30, and 40 yards. If you need help deciding, our team can walk you through it over the phone based on a quick description of your project. As a general guide:

• 15 Yard — Small cleanouts and minor renos
• 20 Yard — Multi-room renovations and standard roof replacements
• 30 Yard — Larger construction and demolition jobs
• 40 Yard — Industrial and high-volume commercial work

Step 3: Give Us a Call or Send an Email

Step 4: Pick a Spot for the Bin

Think about where you want the bin before delivery day. Most customers place it in their driveway. If it needs to go on the street, check out your local bylaws (or at least have a chat with your neighbours). Some areas require a permit for bins placed on public property. We can advise you on this if you’re unsure.

A few tips for placement:

• Leave enough clearance for the truck to drop the bin safely
• If you’re protecting a driveway surface, consider placing plywood boards underneath
• Make sure the bin is accessible throughout your project — not blocked by other vehicles or materials

Step 5: Fill It Up

Once the bin arrives, you’re free to start loading. Fill from the back and load heavier items first to keep things stable. Try to distribute weight evenly and avoid creating peaks above the bin’s top edge — bins must be filled level to the rim for safe transport.

Step 6: Call for Pickup When You’re Done

When your bin is ready to go, give us a call and we’ll come pick it up — there’s no additional charge for pickup. Most rentals include a standard 10-day window, but if you need the bin longer, let us know and we can arrange that too.
